Fujifilm X-Pro1 Firmware Update: No Chatter at All!

As has alreasdy been widely reported, Fujifilm has released a major firmware update for their flagship model X-Pro1.  Get it here:

http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/#firmware

The most notable change with the firmware update is the elimination of a curious chattering sound associated with light metering operation.  The noise wasn’t really that annoying, but with a camera that has otherwise extremely quiet operation, it did stand out a bit.  The firmware upgrade is implemented in two phases – an upgrade for the body and an upgrade for each lens.  Upgrade the body firmware first.  Upon completeion and restart, the camera informs you that the lens firmware needs to be upgraded.  The upgrade goes on smoothly – however it is important to note that Fuji has mucked up the names, so that if you have multiple lenses (e.g., 18mm and 35mm)  you may be confused – you must have, for example, the 35mm lens mounted when you put on the firmware upgrade for the 35mm lens – the upgrade may in fact be the same for all lenses, but it does not indicate that in the supporting literature.

Anyway, the fix works, and the camera is almost silent…  Yeah, the focus confirmation beep is still around and can only be disabled by rigging the camera in ‘Silent Mode’ – unfortunately this mode also disables the focus illunination feature – it would be nice to simply disbale the focus beep independently
